Scientific Worth Index
About Us
The Scientific Worth Index is an independent journal intelligence project developed to examine the publication and citation structures of academic journals using transparent, comparable, and auditable indicators. The project also plans to index/rank publishers, scientists, and universities over time.
Our purpose
We aim to compile journal, article, and bibliography data from open and accessible sources; and to provide researchers, journals, and publishers with understandable profiles by separating indicators such as external citation, self-citation, publication volume, transparency, and author/editorial risk.
How we work?
- We collect journal and article metadata records, publication years, and bibliographies.
- We verify and quality control the journal names in the references.
- We keep self-citation records separate from external citations.
- We generate journal profiles and quarter values for 1, 2, and 5-year publication windows.
- We provide evidence and communication channels to help correct erroneous or incomplete records.
Independence and scope
The Scientific Worth Index is not a product or representative of any publishing organization. It does not claim to replace similar services. It develops its own data processing methods and indicators; and aims to openly announce changes in scope and methodology. As its search, comparison, and ranking methods mature, they are announced on its website using an open-source approach.
